Would You Be Interested in Going ....... to local events through the Chelmsford University of the Third Age (u3a) using an iPhone WhatsApp Group.

This is for the attention of potential members and is intended for members of the Chelmsford Branch of the University of the Third Age.

Here's a bit of a preamble regarding the purpose of this WhatsApp group.

As it is "work in progress" there is scope for it to evolve in a constructive manner.

Our current methodology is that any WYBIG WhatsApp member can suggest an event using the "Poll" option within WhatsApp (i.e. press the "+" sign to the left of the message box - see images below - I think Android phone have a "paperclip" logo instead of the "+") to help to keep the head count of those interested much clearer.

If anyone wants to propose an event then post a message of an activity that may be of interest to others .

For example

"Hi

Would anybody be interested in starting up a U3A Scrabble Club?

Yes

Maybe"

"Would anybody be able to help me out?

My Pub Darts Team are on holiday, leaving me on my own.

Would anyone like to join me at the Whetstone pub in the city centre on Thursday evening at 7:30?

Yes

Maybe"

..... and don't forget to remove the "Allow Multiple Answers" option.

If there are any specific questions, bear in mind that a straight "Reply" will go to everyone - so it may be appropriate to reply to the originator on a one-to-one basis (i.e. press the original message, then ignore "Reply" and select "More", then "Reply Privately").

In addition, it is not intended to be a forum for chit-chat, so messages like "Happy Birthday Sue Ellen - from J.R." or "Hi Gavin & Stacey - Good Luck with your new puppy - Uncle Bryn" are not relevant.

Chelmsford U3A has 700 members (approx) so if this WhatsApp group gets overwhelmed with small talk then it will be unable to function as a notice board.

Finally ....... I'm new-ish to WhatsApp, so I'm happy to be corrected when I get things wrong, or listen when you have a better way of doing things.

HOW TO CREATE A POLL - see the three images below.

Image 1) click on the "+"sign (bottom, left).

Image 2) Select "POLL" (Bottom row).

Image 3) Enter the question, the optional answers and switch off "Allow Multiple Answers".

Then "Send" (see top right)
